Moodie ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Moodie mobile application ("App") and our website, themoodie.app ("Website").

Moodie is not a wellness, counseling, or therapy app. We do not provide medical advice, mental health treatment, or crisis support. The app is designed solely for social and peer-based conversations. If you need professional mental health care, please consult a licensed provider or contact local emergency services.

1. Information We Collect

a) Firebase Authentication & User ID

Moodie has no public profiles: other users don't see your email address, a profile photo or a follower count. We use Firebase Authentication to allow secure sign-in and assign a unique User ID. This User ID is needed for core safety features like blocking and reporting to work. Depending on your sign-in method, we may collect your email address. Passwords are never stored on our servers. Firebase handles this data securely in accordance with Google's privacy protocols.

b) Google AdMob

We use Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) to show in-app ads, which help support the developer and cover server costs. AdMob may collect data such as Advertising ID, IP address, app usage statistics, and device information to serve relevant ads. This data is handled in accordance with Google's privacy policies.

c) In-App Purchases & Subscriptions

Purchases made in the app (such as subscriptions or ad removal) are handled securely by Google Play or the Apple App Store. We do not process or store your payment details. We only receive purchase status (e.g., active subscription) to unlock premium features.

d) Chat Data (Messages & Images)

• Mood Match chats: Chats with people you are matched with through Mood Match are never stored on our servers or saved on your device. When the chat ends, it is gone. If you have Moodie Premium, your Mood Match chat history is saved automatically on your device only, and you can delete it at any time.
• Moodies (friends) and Space chats: These messages are never permanently stored on our servers. Our servers only hold a message until it is delivered. Once delivered, the message is saved on the recipient's device and deleted from our servers within 15 minutes. If a message cannot be delivered (for example, the recipient is offline), it is kept for up to 48 hours to attempt delivery and then automatically deleted.
• Images: Images are encrypted on your device with a unique AES-256 key before they are uploaded, so our storage provider only holds encrypted files. The key is sent with the message through our servers so the recipient can open the image, and is deleted together with the message.
• Encryption: All messages and images are sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Text messages are not end-to-end encrypted: our servers handle them only to deliver them, and we do not read chat content.

e) Analytics, Crash, and Usage Data

We use Google Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to collect anonymized crash reports, usage statistics, and performance data to improve the app experience.

f) Reports and Blocks

Users can report or block others within the app. When a user is blocked, those two users will not be matched again in the future. Reports and blocks are processed to protect community safety. We do not store or review chat content.

g) Account Emails

If you sign up with an email address, we send you account emails only: email verification links, password reset links, and security notices (for example, when your password is changed). These emails are delivered by our email provider, Resend, which processes your email address and the email content only to deliver them. Links in these emails open on themoodie.app, where the action is completed through Firebase Authentication. We do not send marketing emails.

h) Our Website: Cookies and Google Analytics

Our Website (themoodie.app) uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use it, for example which pages people visit and which buttons they tap (such as App Store, Google Play, our community link or links to our other apps). This helps us see which pages help people find Moodie.

• What is collected: pages viewed, clicks on links and buttons on our pages, the referring site, device and browser type, and approximate location (country or city level). Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.
• Cookies: if analytics is allowed, Google Analytics sets the _ga and _ga_* cookies, which last up to 2 years. The Website does not use advertising cookies.
• Your choice: a cookie banner lets you accept or decline analytics cookies, and you can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page. We remember your choice in your browser's local storage.
• Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland: analytics cookies stay off until you accept them. Until then, Google may receive basic, cookieless signals (Google Consent Mode) that don't identify you.
• Google: this data is processed by Google on our behalf. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To enable login and secure user access
• To send account emails such as verification, password reset, and security notices
• To display ads using Google AdMob
• To manage in-app purchases and subscriptions
• To analyze performance and fix bugs
• To improve the quality and reliability of the app
• To enforce safety features such as reporting and blocking users

3. Data Sharing

Moodie strictly does not sell your data. We do not rent or share your personal information for third-party marketing. Data is only shared with service providers like Firebase, Google Analytics, Google Ads, Resend (account email delivery), and app store providers (Google Play / Apple App Store) to support core functionality.

4. Age Requirement (18+) & Children’s Privacy

Moodie is only for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to use the app or collect their data. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will delete it. If you believe a minor has shared personal information with us, please contact us.

To comply with applicable laws, including the Texas App Store Accountability Act (Texas SB 2420), users must confirm that they are at least 18 years old when creating an account, and we may use age signals provided by app stores where available. We store only a confirmation that the user is at least 18 and the time of that confirmation, and use it solely to enforce the age requirement.

5. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your data. You can delete your account at any time through the in-app "Delete Account" option, which permanently removes your email and authentication details from our system. We do not keep chat history on our servers, so there are no conversations for us to delete. Chat history saved on your device stays there until you delete it or uninstall the app, and any undelivered messages are automatically deleted from our servers within 48 hours.

6. Translation Services

Moodie uses Google ML Kit to provide language detection and translation features within the app.

Translation services are available on iOS 15.5+ and compatible Android devices.

When a translation is requested by tapping the translation icon in the chat screen, Google ML Kit and language model files are automatically downloaded to your device for translation services to work.

These models are stored locally and enable offline translation once downloaded.

By default, downloads occur only over Wi-Fi unless otherwise configured by the system.

Moodie does not collect or send your personal messages to external servers for translation. All translations are processed on your device.

Translation accuracy may vary depending on language pairs and message complexity.

7. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including Firebase’s built-in security, encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all app traffic, and on-device encryption of images before upload. However, no system is completely secure, and we encourage you to use the app responsibly.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as needed. Updates will be posted in the app or on this page with a revised effective date.
